Today is Bubba’s 3rd birthday! I can’t believe my first baby is a THREE YEAR OLD. I’m so proud of my smart, stubborn, silly, musical child, and have enjoyed watching him grow and blossom in the past 12 months. I want to take an opportunity today to quickly update you all on how Bubba’s speech therapy is going. You may remember I wrote a piece about my son’s Expressive Language Disorder back in April, and five months later, I am proud to report, my son has surpassed many of his 6 month-1 year milestones! In fact, when it comes to “expressive” speech, he has gone from “impaired” to “moderate.” Which is a HUGE leap in such a short amount of time! His speech therapists believe that continuing two 30 minute sessions per week, and continuing at-home practice, will help him catch up with expressive speech in no time.
I have watched him work so diligently in therapy. There have been so many moments I almost cried tears of joy as I watch him process information and deliver words, sentences and requests I had never heard before. His preschool teachers are thrilled with his development. Bubba speaks ALL the time now, and has quite a sense of humor! He is also quite a singer! We are so proud of him.
We plan to continue speech therapy, and have him evaluated every 6 months, until he is caught up. I will keep you all posted on his progress. I urge everyone to take advantage of these type of services — especially when your child is under the age of 3, and the services are offered at no charge! Speech therapy has truly changed our lives, and has given our son so much confidence.
Now, time for some serious birthday partying with my boy!
